Search

Two searches cover the product: ⌘K is the global jump-to from anywhere; in-conversation search finds a message inside the room you're in. Mail adds its own folder-spanning search box (see Read and send mail).

Global search — ⌘K

Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K) on any surface.

  • Empty — a Recent list, ready to reopen where you were.
  • Typing — grouped results with a live count: navigation destinations (channels, DMs, inbox sections, governance pages) and entities the server finds — people, decisions, docs, charters.

Search inside a conversation

In a channel or DM on smaller screens (below the desktop tier), the header itself is the search pill.

  1. Tap the search pill in the conversation header

    The pill hands over to the results view — a bottom sheet on a phone, a right side panel on a tablet.

  2. Type your query

    Rows show the sender, a snippet with the match highlighted, and the time. The search is scoped to this conversation and respects its membership rules.

  3. Tap a result

    The sheet closes and the stream jumps to that message — scrolled to centre and ringed, paging older history if the hit is outside what's loaded.

On desktop

The desktop conversation header doesn't carry the pill — ⌘K is the search surface there.

What search respects

Search never widens what you can see. Conversation search uses the same membership check as the message history; global entity search answers org-scoped; mail search covers your entitled desks — every folder including Archive and Snoozed, excluding deleted mail.
